Located at Blk 703 Hougang Ave 2 HDB coffee shop, Rui Heng Braised Duck sells a variety of duck dishes at affordable prices. Despite being located in the heartlands, there is bound to be a snaking queue whenever you visit the stall, especially during peak hours. Despite that, though, the queue moves at a steady pace, so you can expect to get your food quite quickly.
My all-time favourite dry duck noodles was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. The portions (meat) were very generous, and the duck meat was tender and flavourful without being overly salty. The dish was topped with a thick savoury-sweet gravy that helped bring out the dish’s flavour, while not overpowering the duck’s taste. This dish is best eaten with their chili sauce, whose spiciness goes well with the gravy and meat’s taste. Crunchy bean sprouts and fish cakes garnished the dish.
We were also impressed with the herbal soup that accompanied the dish. It was aromatic and did not have the MSG taste that leaves you feeling thirsty afterwards.
The same thick savoury-sweet gravy was used for their kway chap. Similar to dry duck noodles, there was a generous amount of kway in the kway chap, which soaked up the soup really well.
Offering great quality food at affordable prices, be sure to visit the stall if you’re a duck lover and happen to be in Hougang!
