A new stall recently opened at Golden Mile Food Centre – the 3Keng Kolo Mee (山璟哥罗面). It is located on the second floor, near the staircase and the row of ATM machines. Just walk up the staircase, and you can easily see the cute 山璟哥 logo.
According to their Facebook page, their noodles are made using the legendary Nantou Yi Mien Noodle recipe (南投百年意面) with about 130 years of history. This is what gives the noodles its springy look and feel, as well as its smooth and QQ texture. The formula also makes sure the noodles do not clump together, whether you are dining in, or having it to go.
The noodles is complemented with high grade, premium ingredients, such as the Shiitake mushrooms.
For those unfamiliar with the dish, Kolo Mee is usually served with soup and soy sauce to give it a darker appearance and enhance its taste. Compared to wanton noodles, Kolo mee are generally springier as they are not drenched in dark sauce.
We ordered the $5 Kolo mee, which has extra ingredients like meat balls and prawns, as well as a generous serving of minced meat. Finally, the dish is topped with spring onions and shallots, giving the dish a sweet crunchiness.
As stated on their Facebook, the noodles are really springier when we ate it. The char siew was not bad too.
Their home made dried shrimp chilli with chilli oil helped enhance the taste of the noodles. Simply mix this with your noodles to give it a darker appearance and enhance its saltiness.
Combined with the chili, the noodles, which is already very Q itself, tastes even better!
