The Sultan’s cafe coffeshop is a hidden gem in the heart of Lavender and Bugis, having stalls with great food, such as Kin Arai and Otoko!
This time, we visited Xin Long Xing, which serves seafood-based and Tze Char dishes. They also do online deliveries, so for those who want a taste of their food but don’t want to leave the comfort of your home or office, you can have their food delivered to your doorstep.
This seafood white beehoon tasted good. Their noodles were flavourful, and was served with a generous amount of rich and addictive gravy. Priced at $6.80, this is the cheapest for their white beehoon menu.
Chilli Crayfish Horfun at $19.80.
The dish looked rather plain at first sight, with just hor fun topped with gravy, vegetables, and crayfish. But don’t let that deter you – the gravy tasted like a combination of your usual hor fun gravy with chilli crab sauce. It wasn’t too spicy, and even had a slight tinge of sweetness to it.
Thinking the portion would be regular-sized, we topped up ours with more hor fun. Little did we expect was that the portion turned out to be so big, we couldn’t finish it!
The only complaints we had was that the hor fun portion was so much, they ended up clumping together. The gravy was not evenly distributed as well. In their defence though, it was us who requested for more hor fun, so if you’re ordering the regular portion, you may not encounter these.
The highlight of this dish was of course, the crayfish. Its size wasn’t too bad and it was clearly fresh because we easily removed the flesh from the shell in one stroke. Sadly it’s gone in just one bite.
They claim to provide safe and high quality chicken which are lower in cholesterol, hormone-free, with original taste. Currently available on their menu are the Prawn Paste Chicken Rice,
XLX Crispy Fried Chicken Rice and Rendang Fried Chicken Rice.
We tried the Prawn Paste Chicken Rice because of the visually appealling photo on the signboard, and it costs under $6. The chicken portion was huge, with the tender chicken encased in a crispy shell that has been marinated by the prawn paste sauce.
They also gave some “archar”, but it tastes more like rojak instead because of the peanuts mixed into it.
The rice was soft and fragrant, and the small saucer of chilli definitely gave the dish a spicy kick. Chicken rice needs chilli sauce, right?
Xin Long Xing (新龍興) also serves chinese cuisine (tze char) with a wide array of dishes catered to families and big groups. We will be back to try their signature stone pot rice wine lala and prawns.

Xin Long Xing (新龍興) at Sultan’s cafe.
This Sultan’s cafe coffeshop does have nice stall such as Xin long Xing, Kin Arai and Otoko a good one stop coffee shop to eat !
This seafood white beehoon actually taste not bad, the noodles are full of flavour and flooded with generous amount of gravy. The gravy was rich and addictive at the same time. This is the cheapest for their white beehoon menu and it is price at $6.80.
Chilli Crayfish Horfun $19.80. It such a big bowl because I started more horfun for 2 person and we regretted because we were trying to finish this big bowl. The Horfun sauce was like a combination of the egg horfun sauce + chilli crab sauce but it was not too spicy and have some slight sweetness to it.
The horfun given was so many and the sauce could not reach them below if they were mixed well when they prepared the dish, I think it will be great. It looks rather plain with just Horfun, the sauce, some vegetables and crayfish. The main thing of course will be the crayfish. Menu with nice seafood usually attracts people. The size of the crayfish was not too bad and it was fresh because they can be easily pulled out in one whole piece. Sadly one bite its gone.
They claimed to provide safe and high quality chicken which were in lower cholesterol, without medicament, hormone free and original taste. Currently there are Prawn Paste Chicken Rice,
XLX Crispy Fried Chicken Rice and Rendang Fried Chicken Rice on the menu.
I tried the Prawn Paste Chicken Rice because the photo on the signboard is bigger and it is below $6. The chicken portion was huge and chicken meat was tender covered by the crispy chicken skin marinated by the salty-sourness of the prawn paste. The also give some “archar” but the taste it more to the rojak taste because of the peanuts. The rice was fragrant soft and fragrance too but that small saucer of chilli definitely give you the kick of spiciness. Chicken rice sure need chilli sauce right !
Xin Long Xing (新龍興) is also one of the place for chinese cuisine (tze char) with many collection of dishes suitable for family and groups. Will be back to try their signature stone pot rice wine lala and prawns.
